Success Tips from Successful People

Success is relative – what Peter considers success may not be so to Paulina, and vice-versa. Also, not many can claim to be successful in all crucial areas of life, as success itself is a journey and not a destination. However, the priciples are the same – here are some easy-to-follow success tips from some of the world’s most successful people.

Tips for Success from some of the World’s Most Successful People

1. Find consistency of discipline

I always felt that our triumphs were an expression of the consistent application of discipline.
Sir Alex Ferguson

The road to success is full of deterrents and distractions. It is easy to be deterred by negative experiences like failure or be distracted by fun and pleasures. However, to be successful, we have to find the discipline to push on and surmount any obstacles.
It also takes discipline to delay pleasure and remain focused and keep working hard.

Sir Alex Ferguson, former manager of Manchester United, is one of the most successful sports coaches ever in the world, and he is saying that one of the main ingredients for his sustained success, and that of his teams, wasn’t just discipline but consistency of discipline.

In other words, you need to remain hungry and dedicated, over and over again.

2. Be daring and driven

You don’t learn to walk by following rules. You learn by doing and by falling over.
Sir Richard Branson

The above quote by Branson simply means that you don’t have to wait for all the conditions to be right, or to have all what you need, before you start working to actualize your dreams.

You just need to be driven, take action, make mistakes, learn from them, and continue to make improvement after improvement, till you succeed.

A baby’s desire and instinct to walk is always stronger than its lack of knowledge or the fear of failure, and that’s why they succeed eventually.

3. Don’t be afraid to fail

It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all, in which case you have failed by default.
JK Rowling

This wonderful quote by JK Rowling, hugely successful author of Harry Porter, is self-explanatory.

It simply means, if the fear of failing is stopping you from chasing your dreams, that state of inactivity is already massive failure. Therefore, you might as well start taking action and give yourself a good chance of eventually succeeding, even if you might encounter failure along the way.

4. Be the best; offer the best.

In whatever you do, strive to be the best at it.
Aliko Dangote

This is simple enough – the world is very competitive, nothing is a gimme; therefore, to be successful, it’s not enough to just offer a solution or service, you have to make sure it is outstanding and the most attractive to people.

If you are the best, or you offer the best, you will be successful.

5. Let progress be your motivation

Don’t focus on the pain. Focus on the progress.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson

In our quest for success, there will be pains and tears – lots of it – and there will be progress. You can either let the pain discourage you, and quit, or let progress delight you and continue to motivate you to success.

A good example of this is when we start a fitness regime; the sore muscles can be mentally processed as suffering or progress -It is up to you.

6. Be willing to go through fire

Successful people do what unsuccessful people are not willing to do. Don’t wish it were easier; wish you were better.
Jim Rohn

Talent and desire are hardly ever enough; to be successful, we must be willing to make sacrifices – learn, suffer, sweat, humble ourselves, delay gratification – that will equip us with the requisite skills and improve our capacity for success.

For gold to come out refined, it must first go through fire. And most times, that, not talent or desire, is the difference between successes and mediocres or failures.

7. Get rid of baggages

If you want to fly, you have to give up the things that weigh you down.
P Diddy

Succeeding is as much about getting rid of hinderances as it is about chasing after your goals.

Are there things in your life – bad habits, toxic people, indulgences – that are having a negative impact on your mental, emotional, social, and physical well being – things that will stop you from maximizing your potential? You need to get rid of them.

The bottom line is, while it might take some time to find the resources you need to succeed, it will cost you nothing, or less, to get rid baggages that are weighing you down. Therefore, that should be a good starting point.

8. Be Decisive

Decisiveness is a characteristic of high-performing men and women. Almost any decision is better than no decision at all.
Brian Tracy

Regardless of how hard it is, successful people take decisive action. They don’t just decide, they take action – and on time, too.

To be successful, you need to be courageous and have a thick skin sometimes, especially in cases where some people might frown at your decision.

Decisiveness could also need some self-discipline. For example, deciding to lock away a decent amount of money in investments at the right time, even if it’s not the most convenient time for you personally.
